My Turn. I have a connection in a few weeks in Frankfurt. It is a little tighter than I like to do. Just in case I miss my flight I thought I would get a room for the night near something that would be interesting for an afternoon, evening and next morning. Say within a 45 minute radius of the airport. So I guess I need a place and a hotel. Nothing intense.
Thanks.
You have your question posted twice, so I just deleted my answer that I posted on the other one and am now posting it here. Not knowing what your interests are exactly, it is difficult to make suggestions. Frankfurt is only 11 min. away from the airport, so I suggest you come into town, visit some museums, have some good Frankfurt style dishes, stroll along the river, and see the sights. Frankfurt is a very old, and historic city and has a couple dozen museums to choose from. It also has one of the most moving Jewish Holocaust Memorials I have seen. For hotels, tell us your budget for more specific recommendations, but I usually recommend the Excelsior, but sometimes the Spener Haus, Hotel Mirimar, Hotel Beethoven, Victoria Hotel, or Ibis City Center.
I'd recommend Mainz or Wiesbaden, both are on a direct train from the airport. Wiesbaden is a little more touristy, Mainz is on the river.
My favorite place to stay before leaving from the Frankfurt airport is Hotel Königshof, in Mainz. It's reasonable priced for the area, only about ½ hour by S-Bahn from the airport, and has free Wifi and a great breakfast buffet. If it makes a difference, someone there always spoke English.
If you haven't been to Frankfurt before, why not stay in the city and explore? Maybe take a walking tour.
I figure if I miss my flight I can be rebooked and out the door by maybe 3pm. Maybe we will just bite the bullet and go into Frankfurt and hangout, relax and have dinner and find a nice hotel near the Römerberg. The flight out the next day could be any time between 11am and 3pm and I would prefer people watching in a nice environment.
It sounds like a great excuse for abbelwoi and grunersosse to me tbh
Sarah, I live a short distance from two towns that only had German language newspapers until about the time of WWII so with some very limited experience I can agree.
