Our family of 5 (3 teens) will be renting a car in Paris, driving to Honfleur where we'll spend the night. The next day we'll drive to Bayeux to see the tapestry (hopefully a little beach time along the way), then spend 2 nights at a B&B near the beaches so we can have a full day tour of the d-day area.
We'd like to then arrive at Mont St Michel in the late afternoon on the following day, spend a few hours, stay at a B&B near there and then drive back to Paris the next day. If the drive is only about 1.5 hrs from Bayeux to MSM, we are wondering if there are any other interesting things to see or do along the way, or slightly out of the way? I know it's about 4 hrs to get from MSM to Paris, but again, is there anything worth stopping to see on the way? thanks in advance for your suggestions.
If you need a place to stop for lunch I can recommend the cute town of Avranches. It its up on a hill and has nice choice of places to eat and a great TI-a convenient stop on the way to MSM. Pretty little non touristy town. Have fun!
We have not been there yet, but I have heard from multiple people that both Dinan and St Malo are great. We plan to visit both.
St. Malo... great town on the Sea. Good for wandering around and having a nice lunch. You say stay at a B&B near MSM, but to enjoy it fully you really should spend the night. It's a totally difference place once the day trippers have gone.
There is a carpark right off the island as well as a shuttle that will take you over and bring you back to your car. Worth it if you can make that happen. The teens will love it.
