Looking for things to see within walking distance of the Louvre museum. Mostly interested in taking in the local flavor. Any suggestions? I will be there with family in July and a couple of us have already been to the Louvre and want the extra time to explore while the rest of the family is in the museum.
Walk through the Tuileries and sit by the fountain for people watching. Visit the Orangerie near the Place de Concorde. Shop on Rue de Rivoli or Boulevard Sebastopol. Have an espresso at any cafe nearby and enjoy the scenery!
You can walk across the Pont Neuf (the "new" bridge is now actually the oldest) to the western tip of the island to admire the heroic mounted statue of Henri IV. Directly opposite is a tiny street opening into the Place Dauphine, a picturesque plaza backing up to the rear of the lawcourts with a couple of pleasant bistros. From there the well-known attractions of Notre Dame and the Left Bank are an easy walk away.
People watch in the Palais Royal gardens, and window shop in the arcaded shops. Also visit the old shopping arcades that are nearby: Galerie Vero-Dodat, Galerie Vivienne, Galerie Colbert. I'm not a shopper but love this area.
Good ideas! I was wondering if there is reasonable shopping nearby. Is it possible to walk along the river? Are there vendors there?
Thanks everyone!
There are a few of the "passages" in the area of the Louvre. http://www.parisbestlodge.com/passages.html
Go to a wine tasting at OChateau! It's so much fun and very informative. Right near Le Louvre.

Have life-changing hot chocolate at Angelina, Rue de Rivoli. Visit the overlooked but superb decorative arts collection of the Louvre up Rivoli towards Tuilleries. Walk up to Garnier Opera.
