Thermes in Southern Germany...which one?

We will be living in Fulda, Germany for 5 weeks this Oct/Nov and would like to stay/experience a therme in Bavaria. Last year, we were pleasantly suprised to find ourselves enjoying the therme in Baden Baden on our way to Colmar France that we went back for a quick dip a few weeks later. I have been reading about thermes in Bavaria and was hoping I could get some suggestions on this board. We have 3 nights set aside for this and would be traveling by train. Also have another 3 nights to book...any suggestions in Germany? We have been to all the RS recommended cities but know there are many more to explore. Do have 6 nights booked for Paris and will end this time with 6 days in Bruge, Brussels and Amsterdam. Just love our travels to Germany and the rest of Europe. Thanks.

Bad Hersfeld isn't too far from Fulda. I've been meaning to check it out, but haven't made it yet. The name of the town would suggest the presence of a thermal spa. Bad Kissingen also is fairly close. I have visited here, and its a particularly elegant, but quiet thermal resort.

Many Therme in Germany are textile-frei (clothing free); some aren't. If that is not what you want, be careful in your choice. If you will accept clothing free, there is a very nice old Spa, the Palais Therme, in Bad Wildbad, which is a streetcar ride south of Pforzheim, in the Black Forest. It was built by some count or someone in a Moorish style.

I can't help you with Bayern but if you should find yourselves again in Baden-Württemberg you could do much much worse than Keidel Mineral-Thermalbad in Freiburg im Breisgau. We regularly go.

Thank you all for your suggestions and will take a look especially at the one near Fulda as that would save on train time (even tho I do enjoy a nice train ride). Also, my husband has done the non clothing option buy I prefer keeping a little clothing between me and other bathers. Will post when we find a place and do a little report. On another note, I really enjoy the helpline especially when planning another trip to Europe.

A tip for finding good mineralbaden or thermes in Germany - look for nearby towns with "Bad" in the name. They will inevitably have at least one or two nice spas. The majority of them are ones that require bathing suits in the pool areas, but suits are never allowed in the saunas or steam bath areas (separate usually from the pool areas). Some baths do have women-only sauna areas, however. Just looking at a map, there's quite a few "Bad" towns near Fulda. If you go to the town website or do a google search for "mineralbad" or "therme" with the town name, you will probably get a list of what spas they have there. Have fun!
