I will be in Paris for the month of June. Our city paper ran a story about the Rungis market outside of Paris but did not give any direct information about how it tour it. I know that there is a company that does give tours. Does anyone know of a tour group? Has anybody been there and what was their experience?
I thought that sounded interesting, too, so I Googled it. Apparently tours are scarce and expensive.
But this is a link to a interesting article with many photos of what it's like there. It also has links to guides.
Those others here who like food markets, might be interested in the link.
We've never had a question about the Rungis food wholesale market. I noticed these quotes in the website kindly provided by Doug:"Tourists can't really visit Rungis, and the locals don't like being photographed * * *Rungis' administration had referred me to a private Rungis tour guide. We arranged an appointment at 5:30 AM. 'At what time would we need to leave the hotel in central Paris', we asked. 'You need a good 90 minutes' they answered. We checked on the map and asked a couple people and decided, given the time of the day, to allow for 30 minutes only. Most cabs won't drive to Rungis, so we had the concierge negotiate with the Taxi Bleus, a cab company, for a driver who would."
Hi, frankly, no one goes to Rungis a part from professional wholesale buyers. You can't buy just 1 apple. Unless THAT is what you're looking for, I can tell you 2 or 3 other Parisian markets that are more easily accessible.
