The Romantic Road and Prague

For our honeymoon in Oct 2008, we are thinking of touring through the Romantic Road in Germany and then spending a few days in Prague, can anyone give me advice about how where to fly into, what the highlights are and the best way to get to prague from Germany. Is this trip romantic enough, or should we be looking at Italy?

I did the Romantic Road in Oct. 2007. I really enjoyed Landsberg am Lech, Donauwörth, Nördlingen, and Feuchtwangen (can't really say why, I just did). But despite the name, I'm not sure it is "romantic enough".

For my trip, I landed in Munich. Since I had already been to Füssen three times, I started in Oberammergau, saw Linderhof, then went from Oberammergau to Wieskirche and north.

The best way to get to Prague from Munich is by train. There are several 6 hour, direct trains, plus one with a connection in Schwandorf, to Prague via the border crossing at Furth im Wald.

By the way, I did the entire Romantic Road trip by public transportation; despite anything you hear, if you do your research, you don't need a car. The actual road is tedious. I don't think driving would be much fun.

We took our honeymoon in Germany and Austria in October 2008. We visited Salzburg, Munich, Ruette in Austria, Rothenburg, Wurzburg, Bonn, Koln, St Goar and Bacharach. We had a rental car from Munich to Fussen then north to Wurzburg. We did stop at a few towns along the way but to drive the entire Romantic Road is very slow, espcially north of Rothenburg. If you have no where to be in a hurry then it is fun to drive through the small towns and see the locals, like we did. The Rhine is amazing and the castles are beautiful, visit some vinyards. We are very low maintenance and backpacked the whole way using public transportation 90% of the time. Trains from Munich to Prague are easy to get. We loved our honeymoon and cant wait to get back to Germany and Austria in a few years. The Alps are amazing and if you are in Munich and have a day or two, Salzburg is highly recommended as it is only an hour and a half away. Good luck with the wedding and enjoy the honeymoon.
