The Netherlands in June - Country Side, Windmills

I will be going to Brussels at the end of June. I plan to take a day trip to the Netherlands. I have been to Amsterdam once before and did the obligatory Red Light District, the canal tour and the Anne Frank house. This time, I would like to head out to the flower fields and enjoy the open air. Questions:
1) are the tulips and flowers gone in June/July?
2) where should I go to enjoy the country side?
3) do you recommend a bike tour for that?
4) are the windmills something cute to see?

Thanks,
Kathy

Steve,

Keukenhof is stunning. Thanks for the suggestion. I will e-mail them and ask for dates when they are open.

Thanks,

Hi, Kat. The area I live in is #2 behind Holland for daffodils and tulips, and things are already in full bloom here. The weather is very similar to there, and I doubt you'd see anything in June and July. (Then again, I saw cherry trees bloom here in the 1st/2nd week of Feb. yikes!)

In my time in Holland, I remember seeing flowers as early as March, but I don't have any memories of them in late June, and July...

Delft, Haarlem, Linden are great places to stop. The Windmill in Linden was quite impressive.

This area has lots of windmills:

My husband and I rode our bikes through this area. Very nice. We had our own bikes, though, so I don't have any information about renting them. Click on the virtual tour on the website to get an idea.

By June, the flower season in the polderland is mostly over. The Dutch countryside does have some windmills and charming old farm buildings... but, it also has a lot of modern factories and industrial agriculture. Often more functional than scenic. A good bike ride might be through the polderland between Den Haag and Leiden. If there's any flowers to be seen in the country at the end of June, that's where you'll find them.

PS - I meant Leiden, not Linden... thanks Tom.

Thanks for all your replies. Too bad I will be missing those daffodils and tulips on this trip. One more question: what about the nightlife in Amsterdam? Do you have any good recommendations? Dancing clubs, shows, good restaurants, hangouts etc....

Thanks,
Kat
