Has anyone heard of an evening tour of the Louvre. We will be in Paris two weeks in June/July.
We have been in Paris a few times but have never heard of that. Do go to Museum of Science and Industry in the far northeast corner of the city-- it is terrif
If people would use there google or yahoo or whatever they have, and just type the word "Louvre" into the little box they would then discover that there is a website. It has a box to check off for english, it tells you admission prices, opening times, entrance, which exhibits are on, and gives shows you the lay out.
You can try this for almost anything in Paris. I have googled restaurants, stores, and museums. Going to the actual site is a great source of info.
Don't get me wrong, these boards are fabulous for getting other travellers input and advice, but, sometimes they are wrong, or they just don't really know.
thank you all for the info
Just a note about Friday evenings at the Louvre.
After 18h30 the museum is free to students. It is often quite crowded.
A few more things:
It's a lot less crowded on Tuesdays...because it's closed. ;)
Most big museums in Paris, including the Louvre, are free on the first Sunday of the month.
The pyramid entrance is wonderful and all, but entering through the metro entrance, "Palais Royal-Musée du Louvre," (open until 8:30pm I think?) saves a lot more time.
Perhaps you are referring to this?
Noooooooo , not "free Sunday"' a nighmare of mine.
Years ago I accidently went on a free sunday. I did not know it was free, I assumed waiting in line for 1 1/2 hours was normal.. and only discovered my dreadful mistake at the door. Ah, the joy of being in the most visited Museum on the world on one of the busiest times , and on the most crowded of days.
Ah, the smell of the mass of bodies pushing around me, the elbows jabbing me in the ribs, the loud voices making it impossible to hear my audio tour( even with using earphones).
I would NEVER go on a " free " day to save 9 euros. I am serious. The Lourve is often crowded and busy, but just wait till you go on a "free" Sunday in the summer, then you will know true exhaustion, as you will GIVE UP seeing anything and will only be trying to SURVIVE the visit.
I will mail you 9 euros, just don't jump off that bridge, ,, LOL .
We did it a couple of years back late in the day into early evening on a Wednesday when they have extended hours. Perfect! Crowds had really thinned out and we were able to linger and not feel at all jostled or rushed.
