Wow. You can take a one-hour "taster lesson" in carriage-driving there. I may have to put this on my list.

James, if your kids love horses there is a Haflinger horse farm you can visit up on Alpe di Siusi next year: http://www.zallinger.com/index.html Unfortunately they won't be offering rooms until June, but the farm may be open for visiting. Michael---no, you couldn't learn all there is to know about carriage-driving in an hour (I took a week-long class many years ago), but they do take beginners, and one could get a "taste" as they call it. I assume you have to speak German as that part of the website is only available in German.

please dont take offense.... I was only joking about learning to drive a carriage in an hour! now, regarding the armory... (keep in mind I was there 10 years ago!).... it was a very fun tour... very nice suits of armor, however as I recall it was self guided.... so you kind of need some basic knowledge of the regions history. I could be wrong or it could have changed.... every decade or so things change! :) also as I remember there was a funicular ride up to the top of a hill with a wonderful overlook of the town square... all the stunning orange roof tops! .... and there was a small "fortress" museum up there also. I enjoyed Graz very much and am sorry its not mentioned in RS books!
finally, ask the TI about a summer palace on the outskirts of Graz.... accessible by bus. very nice place and you will be surprised by the peacocks just walking around the palace grounds. There is also a nice tour of the opera house... althoughts its a very new buildingh If anyone else has some other information on Graz spots to see.... Id appreciate them!
