The german meaning of the word

The munich train stations list the word tief after Munchen Hbf. What does this mean?

"Tief" means "deep" in German. "Hbf tief" is the underground S-bahn station. You get to it by going down stairs under the street on the north side of the station.

HBF literally stands for Hauptbahnhof, but I think Lee is giving you the actual location and he's probably right.

As a "real German" I can confirm that Lee is absolutely right. We use the word "Tiefbahnhof" in many cities, incl. Frankfurt and Munich as a differentiater between the ground level and the underground level(s). In Berlin you even have a "Hochbahnhof" or "hoch" as at the new main station there is a ground level, an underground level and an elevated (hoch) level...
