Do the Fountains at Versailles run during the winter - is there a scheduled posted anywhere - I have been out at the official Versailles website and do not see if they even run this time of year. We have the ability to go out the Versaille any day during the first week of January. Thanks
For obvious reason, the fountains do not run in winter.
According to the website the fountains run from april to october.
They'd probably be less fun when frozen.
Slower.
The fountians don't run, but if by chance it snows while you are there, go to the gardens then. They are magical when covered with even just a light dusting of snow.
Unfortunately, no. Many scuptures in fountains throughout Europe are "boxed up" in winter for preservation. This isn't to say that you shouldn't visit , though, as Versailles (especially the gardens) is magical. If there's snow, then you can't possibly not go!
My wife and I live in Brittany, France part of the year and made a special trip to Versailles to see the fountains on a Saturday in the early fall. We had been there twice before, but always before or after the season in which the fountains were running. There is a drought going on in France, and even in the summer the fountains ran on a rotating, reduced schedule. The Saturday show with the piped in classical music was spectacular. Lots of information on the Web. I realize this is not directly pertinent to your question, but thought is could be useful if you have a chance to return in the early or late season. You would really not like the mid-summer crowds.
