On my way southeast I am considering a small detour into the Eifel. I have been by on the highway but would now like a closer look. Have any of you visited the Maare area, especially the Crater Lakes of Pulver Maar or its 3 other brothers? Is it worth a stop; are they (esp. Pulver Maar) at all like Crater Lake in Oregon? Thanks
ah, damned with faint praise - well not even that. Thanks for the idea of goggling. It looks nice but not worth going out of the way for. Probably rains, too.
The Eifel is a beautiful region but more for the villages made of half-timbered houses (all in the same color, even the roofs) and the look of the mountains that almost all used to be Volcanoes. The lakes are crater lakes but completely green now and thus nothing like on Iceland or in North America. But maybe www.moseleifel.de might help a little as well...
