The climate in Avignon, Arles and Nice

Hi Everybody!
We (1 papa, 1 mama and a 2 year old boy) are traveling to Provence and the Cote d'Azur the 2nd week of October this year. Do any of you have any advice on the weather? I want to pack light, but will be there for 11 days. We are Americans currently stationed in Germany and we are experiencing an Indian Summer here in the Rhineland-Pfalz. I just don't want to pack jeans and khakis for my boys if it will be warm weather! HELP!

We just got back from three days of rain in Provence.

On the 16th it was truly wet and miserable.

Everyone speaks of Mistral winds. If those had come up in the days following the storminess we encountered, I can only imagine how "fresh" the weather would have been.

Bill, I am so sorry the weather was bad for your visit. But tell me, was it cold and rainy or warm (like Florida) rainy?

Thanks,

Gen

Hmm, I'm not sure what to tell you. I was in Nice the first week of October 2006 and it was hot and sunny (in the 80's, tank tops and skirts weather). Just last year though, I was in Arles at the same time (expecting it to be somewhat similar to my last visit) and it was much cooler than I anticipated (in the low 60's, the two light sweaters and jeans I brought were working overtime).

Here's a helpful website that I've found on this board to monitor as the time gets closer:

Cynthia,

Thanks so much for the website! It was perfect! I was able to access it and go from there. I guess I will take Rick Steve's advice and pack as light as I can and if we desperately need something, run into Monoprix and pick it up there!
