I read all good comments from Rick's books about Reutte, I'd like to visit it. My question is if is the bus that connect both cities is incluided on Bayern Ticket? Thanks
Put your tin hat on for the strong anti-Reutte crowd. The answer is no. Reutte is in the country of Austria. Bayern Ticket is for travel with the Land (state) of Bayern - Bavaria - which is within Germany. Almost everyone here (me too) will encourage you to consider Fuessen, Pfronten or other villages and towns within Bavaria. We loved Fuessen and disliked Reutte. Well, to be accurate, we didn't dislike Reutte, just didn't find anything appealing about it. Lee, is that right?
We used the Bayern Ticket from Munich to Salzburg last year.
"We used the Bayern Ticket from Munich to Salzburg last year." I'm sure you did. German Rail runs the trains from Freilassing into the Salzburg Hbf. Salzburg Hbf is a shared Bahnhof, so it's included with the Bayern-Ticket. Salzburg is also included with the German Rail pass, but not with a Eurail pass including Germany. First, the Bayern-Ticket is only valid for train transportation in Bavaria and for a few train lines outside Bavaria, like the Ausserfernbahn or the line from Freilassing into Salzburg. It is also valid for all bus lines run by the RVO (Regional Verkehr Oberbayern) within Bavaria. It is not valid for parts of RVO lines outside of Bavaria. So, if you took the bus from Fuessen to Reutte, you would at least have to pay for the border to Reutte, maybe the whole way, but the fare would only be a few Euro either way. For instance, 1-2 km €1,40 3-4 1,80
5-6 2,30 7-10 2,70 Second, in 2009, I took the train from Seefeld, AT, to Pfronten, DE. We had a change of trains in Reutte, so I took timeout for lunch. As I was wandering around, looking for someplace for lunch, I was appalled at how unappealing the town is - sort of dumpy - too industrial. Maybe there are parts far from the Bahnhof that are nicer, but I wouldn't recommend staying downtown. In contrast, everywhere in Pfronten is nice, even around the Bahnhof. In Fuessen, very close to the Bahnhof are the pedestian only streets and quaint shops of the old town.
