I want to go to the Alps in the beginning of december. I would be leaving from Rouen. I just have a weekend, leave on a friday morning, back on a sunday night. Probably taking a train into wherever I'm going. Any idea what the best way to see the alps in this short of a time would be? Or what would be the best place or places to go to experience the alps?
Hello Kaitlyn, you did not say where you are starting from. If your flying from stateside that is a very quick trip. Fly into Munich or Innsbruck if that will be your mode of transportation. I always drive when I'm in Germany. This allows us to go where our whims take us. You should check train schedules and/or bus schedules. The internet is great for this. For our next trip I have been using viamichelin.com and Google Earth for planning ideas and the time it might take. Good Luck, it is beautiful down there.
Your best option, with so little time available, might be to pick a destination that limits travel time- and if you're traveling from Rouen, that makes it much easier than if you travel from the US. Do you plan to fly or take a train?
I would recommend going to Chamonix, France. We love it there. You could take a train from Rouen to Paris, a TVG (fast train) to Geneva and another train to Chamonix. Chamonix is a charming little town in the heart of the French Alps. Check RS book for more info and for hotels.
I really want to go to the swiss alps, but i'm not sure if it would be possible to travel from rouen to the swiss alps in one weekend. But if I could, does anyone have any suggestions on must see towns?
