If I have tickets in advance, how much time should I allot for the tour of the Alhambra. I have only three hours in Granada (between trains) and would love to try to squeeze in the Royal Chapel as well if there's time. Thoughts?
You could easily spend three hours in the Alhambra alone. getting off the train and cabbing it to the entrance up the hill will probably take 20 minutes...another 20 minutes back. That leaves you with just over 2 hours. Plus, you can also only enter the Nazrid palaces during the half hour window listed on your ticket. Since you can only choose the morning (830 am-230 pm) or afternoon session (2-8 pm), and since you don't get to choose that half hour window (it's generated by the computer, based on how many people have already ordered tickets for that day), you may end up at the Alhambra, but not be able to see the jewel of the whole site. It's going to be very, very chancey....never mind the Royal chapel! BTW, the chapel is closed between 1 and 3:30 pm through March...1-4 pm April-October.
Norm is being generous. I don't think you can get through the Palacios Nezaries in less than three hours -- then there are the grounds, the fort, the Generalife. IMO it takes a day to truly see the Alhambra. A best you have about two hours. You will have to be satisfied with the Royal Chapel.
Frank...you can get thru it....you just won't appreciate it properly ;)
Norm, I generally leave my track shoes at home when I travel. You forgot the walk from the entrance to the Palace -- that takes 15 minutes. Judy, I say this with all the politeness possible, "THAT IS NUTS !!" Seriously, I think you would regret it if you tried. Save it for the next trip.
With that period of time, I would just explore the old town and try a beef shawarma at one of the gyro stands. It's such a charming little city and never seemed to lose the Arab vibe after all these years. Maybe try a huka bar, too.
Thanks all for your advice. I will definitely limit my sightseeing..........and enjoy it! Judy
