Does anyone know which is the best deal, if one wanted to travel around France for a couple days, (only one week's stay total)? Obv. the TGV is quicker, but what about price and are the passes essentially the same?
I do know that the TGV from Paris to Nice is the cheapest option and an excellent way to travel. Grab a few bottles of wine and enjoy the wonderful countryside.
Thanks, Keith.
If you book in advance on SNCF or IDTGV sites, you can get outstanding fares - for instance right now you can buy tickets for 19-22E, depending on date and destination.
The name of the game is booking far in advance for the longer hauls, no advantage to booking ahead for the local routes, although there are specials.
If you subscribe to the SNCF newsletter, even in French, you can pick up on great deals and specials.
