I was wondering if anyone has been to Texel Island in the Netherlands and would have any advice on spending a day there? I've read some information on their webpage, but any tips or pointers would be apreciated. One thing I was wondering about is if there are any taxis available. Also I was curious if there are any resources on the island with historical information (such as the history of the island, inhabitants, etc.). My family has had relatives on the island (but none there now), so I'm planning to make a day-trip there. Thanks!

I haven't been there, but if you want to see a movie that takes place mostly on the island (and was filmed there), look up the Dutch film "Johan".
