Has anyone taken a taxi from Paris Nord to Versailles? Is it difficult to find a driver willing to take you? If I need to reserve a car and driver, can I do it online during tomorrow morning's Thalys ride?
We are taking the Thalys from Brussels to Paris tomorrow morning en route to Versailles as a special side trip for my mother-in-law. We all greatly overestimated her patience with transit and willingness to walk even short distances. I'd like to minimize the fuss and just hop into a taxi to go straight to our hotel. (We're carrying small overnight bags and staying in a hotel close to the Chateau.)
Also, if you know of any Versailles restaurant--decent or otherwise--that serves cheeseburgers, I'd be grateful. Madame made known her firm desire for a cheeseburger today, and we'd better locate one for her tomorrow. Good thing she also likes croissants. (And yes, we do love her, but this is the LAST time we're taking her abroad.)
I'm afraid I can't help you with your first question - I'd assume that drivers would be willing to take you if you're willing to pay, but it's Paris, and assuming anything can get you in trouble. The Sisters Cafe in Versailles apparently serves decent cheeseburgers. And I feel your pain about in-laws abroad.
Out of curiosity, I Googled "taxi paris to versailles" and found this link: http://www.parislogue.com/planning-a-trip/getting-from-paris-to-versailles.html. It indicates that you can take a cab, and doesn't mention anything about needing prior arrangements or other difficulties. I also found some TripAdvisor postings indicating that it will cost 50-60 euros from Paris to Versailles, but no one mentioned any problem finding a cab that would do it. (I do know what you're asking about. I've seen people online who want to stay in New Jersey hotels to "save money," thinking they can get a New York City cab to go back and forth, and not understanding that not only is a NYC cab not obligated to make that journey, but that if they do find one to take them, it will be at a very high rate).
I'm sorry I couldn't help you with your immediate, ummm, 'project', but I will say a prayer for you. I've traveled with Madame and Monsieur...their particulars were different from yours, but...I understand you completely. Completely. I hope Project: Hamburger was successful. How ever did you get to Versailles, if you're emotionally ready to relive that excursion?
PROJECT CHEESEBURGER - Marines to the relief mission - Between the RER station and the Chateau is McDonalds. They have CHEESEBURGERS. McDonald's VERSAILLES FOCH
9, rue du Maréchal Foch 78000 VERSAILLES They open every day for 8am. If that one isn't to standard there are 2 others a couple of blocks away. Its a shame she didn't try Quick while you were in Brussels.
Take her to McDonalds. They have cheeseburgers and, they use Dijon mustard. Imagine that. It tastes great. You might even try the Le M burger. We really don't eat at McDonalds a lot but we did find a level of hunger and opportunity to be near one during one of our longer drives in France last fall.
There's a McD just across the street from the Nord front entrance.
