I just learned that the shuttle service from LUX to Trier will no longer take small groups or individuals. I understand that taxi cost for the trip would run about 75 euro. We are a family of 4 with minimal baggage (one each). Does anyone know if there are hidden or additional costs we should be on the lookout for or is 75 Euro a pretty reasonable estimate? Thanks for your help!
Alternatively, you could take a bus from the airport to the central train station and a train from there to Trier. If I read the bus site correctly (in French), buses run about every 15 minutes and a ticket costs €1.50. According to the German Rail site, the 2nd class train fare is €15.90 on regional trains and €18.60 on IC trains. Trains run at least hourly.
In the literature that we received from the RS Tour Folks concerning getting to Trier (where the G/A/S tour starts) by taxi from LUX, they say a taxi will cost about 75E and take about 45 minutes. The literature also list several other options for getting from LUX to Trier. PM me if you want any additional information.
The transfer from LUX to Trier by bus/train is fairly convenient: buses leave right outside the terminal and stop outside the main railway station in Luxembourg. The only thing is that it's an ordinary city bus, not an express bus, so leave plenty of time going the other way.
