Taking car parts to Germany

This is a rather odd question, but I can't seem to find the information I need anywhere! I'm sure I'm overlooking it. Anyway, we're heading to the Netherlands to visit my husband's family but we're flying direct into Frankfurt. We're wanting to take along several automotive parts (gaskets, fuel pump, etc.) to a friend who is restoring a Mustang and is having trouble finding the parts he wants. Will we have trouble clearing customs in Germany with these parts? We've been told by the airlines that it won't be a problem carrying them in our checked bags on the plane (I'm doubting this won't be a problem, too, considering how tight security can be!).

if they are in their original packaging and there's no fuel/flammables, then you should have no problem. I had to take tons of tools in a checked bag once and had no problem. Another friend travels many times a month, internationally, carrying all sorts of REALLY weird equipment of the mechanical nature and has sometimes had to clarify what's in there, but when he's up front, he's never had a problem.

Hope that helps!

Nicole, even the TSA knows that a gasket is nowhere near as dangerous as a bottle of water. As the previous post mentions, as long as you aren't transporting flammables, you should have no problem. Get to the airport a bit early just in case -- worst case you'll have to check the stuff.
My brother-in-law restores American cars on a professional basis, and obviously gets most of his parts from the US. AFAIK, he's never had a problem with customs. I know he works directly with California Mustang, among others, for supplies. PM me if you need further details for your buddy.
