Will be staying in wengen Switzerland for a week then planning to head to Italy for a week. My question is would anyone know if going from Wengen to Salzburg first for 2 days would be a worth while idea. We have all been to Italy so we would be taking a couple days from there but have never been to Salzburg . Thanks for your feed back.

Interlaken to Salzburg would take 9 or more hours by train, and the better part of a day driving. Wouldn't be worth the effort to me, but that's just my opinion.

Seven and a half hours if you leave Interlaken at 8:30 am and catch the direct RJ train from Zurich to Salzburg. But it is out of the way if you are heading to Italy.
