Switzerland or Vienna?

Hi there,

We're planning a trip this summer to include Berlin and Prague, but we're trying to decide whether to also include Vienna or someplace in Switzerland - and if so, which one? Does anyone have any thoughts on visiting Vienna vs. Switzerland?

Thank you!

I visited Vienna last fall and it was a nice 3 day stop. I went there instead of Switzerland as I had read that it was much more expensive in Switzerland. Vienna is a beautiful city, but only worth a few days IMO. Schoborn (sp?) Palace and the zoo are very nice. The zoo you can get really close to the animals and I found that neat. Also the downtown area is very nice and laid back.

Hi Jenn,
Above URL is a city guide for Vienna. It's probably true that Vienna is less expensive than any similar city in Switzerland. When you arrive in Vienna, assuming you will stay 3 days, get 3-Day Vienna tickets (72 hours) for transit nearly everywhere. We would visit Schönbrunn Palace (take a tram) and in an evening, visit Grinzing and the wine Heurigen / restaurants (tram #38 from center city). Visit Stadtpark for waltz entertainment on an evening. That park is in center city Vienna on the Ring Strasse. In center city Vienna visit great museums and the Hofburg (former Hapsburg winter palace) and the Spanish Riding School (Lippizaner horses, etc.) The guide above can fill you in on details. Don't overlook having lunch at Figlmüller (2 locations in center city) to eat that fabulous Wienerschnitzel!
Have a great trip! ... P

Would be Vienna for me as well, Jenn, and if you want something a bit different, Bratislava, Slovak Republic, is only an hour+/- down the road by bus and a great place to spend the day. They've refurbished the very walkable old town since the Velvet revolution and the castle 'brooding' over the city and the Danube is a sight to behold.

they are so different in many ways. If you are an outdoors person and money is less a concern do Switzerland, espec Berner oberland area. However Vienna is a terrific destination also but more cultural.

Where are you flying in/out? How long do you plan to spend in Vienna or Switzerland?

Thank you, everyone, for your replies!

We're planning on spending probably about 3-4 days in whichever place we choose...sounds like Vienna is becoming the popular choice!
