Switzerland or Prague ?

Need to decide on our Europe itinerary for summer 2012. We have 9 to 10 days and are a family of 4, 2 children 7 & 11 Plan 1 would be 3 days Switzerland (RS recommended Grimmelwald area), 2 in Ruette area to see castles, 1 Salzburg, 3 Vienna.
Plan 2 would have 2 days Munich, 1 Salzburg, 3 Vienna, 3 Prague Key question - Switzerland or Munich and Prague ? Appreciate any thoughts from those who have traveled these areas with children

Dont stay in reutte- if you do this option choose a nearby town- maybe Fussen. Do research on Reutte (outside of RS book) and you wouldn't choose it. Munich/Prague or Switzerland- City or mountains. Your call

Agreed, Ruette is nothing special. I would also recommend against Gimmelwald. There is absolutely nothing there. If you choose Switzerland, choose Lauterbrunnen, Muerren, or Wengen.

If it were me, I would choose the Munich plan and I would take one day away from Vienna to add to Salzburg. One night at a location is really hard especially with kids and I took one of my 10 year old grandsons there a few years ago and he really liked Salzburg. Its pretty user-friendly with kids. And yes, we did sing the Sound of Music! Truthfully, I would also delete Vienna in favorite of castles if you can work that out in your itinerary. Or, leave Vienna and stay outside of Munich in a small village so they can have a variety of city and countryside. You will have a wonderful time with any plan... its Europe!

You don't have that much time, and Switzerland is a far outlier. You'll see the Alps anyway as you go from Munich to Salzburg.

We took one trip with our son when he was 13 and went to Munich and Salzburg and he loved it. This past Christmas we took our 7 yr old daughter to Prague. There was so much for her to do. My vote is Plan 2!
