A friend and I are traveling through the Romantic Road in Germany in a couple of weeks. My friend, however, has already visited this area and would like to hop over to Switzerland for a day or two. Do any of you have any recommendations on places that we could visit? We are planning to fly from Munster down to Munich to begin the Road, but if we need to fly to another Swiss destination - that's very feasible. Thanks!
Ever hear of the Bernese Oberland??? http://www.alpensicht.com/English/switzerland_berner-oberland.htm
I would suggest that your travel time and money are poorly spent to travel that distance in "a day or two" - it's more than just a hop, even if you fly. If you indeed travel the RR south to Füssen and want more alpine scenery, head over to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Mittenwald; the Zugspitze, Germany's tallest peak, provides commanding views. These towns are also reachable from Munich. Alternatively: take a short detour off the tourist-trail Romantic Road to see Bamberg, Nuremberg, and/or Regensburg, which all have nicely preserved old towns and many interesting things to see and do. Salzburg and Innsbruck are easily reached from Munich.
You realize it's the middle of the ski season, right?
Not all that far away from the RR in northern Switzerland is Stein am Rhein, the Rhine Falls, Winterthur and Zurich. It's a lovely area in Summer, but I've no idea what it's like in Winter.
