Switzerland museum

I have been Switzerland several times, but never took the time to visit any museums, since my Swiss Pass covers a lot of them, any suggestions on any of them worth visiting, also any museums geared toward children, I will have a 9 year old with me when I go back next year. Thanks

Ballenberg is really great, one of the best open air museums I've ever seen - and I have seen quite a few!

I'd also recommend the Transport Museum in Luzern. There is just soooo much to see. I had to take a break in the cafe after 4 hours but hubby and kids (11 and 8 years old at the time) ran around for another hour on top of that.

I have visited the Heidi Museum (near Sargans) and found it delightful; since my Swiss friends lived nearby, that was a must-do. Since you are then in Heidiland, be sure to visit nearby attractions.

For kids I highly recommend the open air museum at Ballenberg (Bernese Oberland). Not only is the train trip up there beautiful, the area has dozens of living exhibits and you can easily spend 5 hours walking among them. Our children had a great time, and the bucolic surroundings made it seem as if we were just in countryside. Highly recommended!

You don't say were you will be staying so it's hard to offer suggestions...we loved the Train museum in Lucerne...kids there were having fun.

Would concur with Ballenburg museum suggestion. Seems a great spot for everyone. A good cloudy day option in Berner Oberland.

Another good museum is the official SBB Historic Train museum in Interlaken. Its actually just a giant model train museum, but its one of the best of its kind. Kids will eat it up! Ironically they don't accept the Swiss Pass, but check it out anyway. Also in Gruyère is the HR Giger Museum and cafe. Giger is the sci-fi artists who created the creatures in the Aliens movies. It might be too intense for younger children, but they do accept the Swiss Pass. www.hrgiger.com Zurich has a nice large zoo, but they don't accept the pass.
