Greetings, We are planning travel from Como (Italy) to Munich via train through Switzerland. We have 2 open days. Any suggestions as what town to stay? What train(s) etc? Thanks!
Jim, With only two days, you won't have a lot of time for sightseeing. Could you clarify whether you're travelling from the town of Como or somewhere else on Lago di Como? One suggestion you might consider would be to travel from Como (?) to Lucerne. It's a beautiful city, and only about 3-hours from Como. It would be a great place to spend a day or two! It's a relatively easy trip from Lucerne to Munich. Depending on which train you choose, the trip will be as short as 5H:18M with one change. There's a train departing Lucerne at 08:10, arriving Munich at 13:28 (one change in Zurich, reservations compulsory). That's the one I'd use. If you could provide a bit more information on your trip, it would be easier to provide more specific travel information. Happy travels!
If you will be traveling from the town of Como, the train from Milan to Arth-Goldau (near Lucerne) via the Gotthard tunnel stops there. In 3 hr., you're in Lucerne which is a great place to stop. Unfortunately, this train does not stop in the Berner Oberland but, that can be another visit. If you are in Lake Como, it's a different story. It's 5-6hrs to Lucerne. You either ferry, to the town of Como to pick up the train above, or you take the train from Varenna to Milan and again, pick up the train mentioned above.
