Switzerland in late Nov.

We're looking at a visit to the Interlaken region during the late fall and early winter. We are also concerned about the weather during this time. Is it worth while? How about other areas of Switzerland? Thanks as always. Jim

"Is it worth while?" It's not worth going out of your way to visit in November. The weather will likely limit visibility, so don't expect great mountain vistas. Many of the mountain businesses are also temporarily closed in preparation for the upcoming ski season. Unless you're hoping to catch some early skiing, I would go somewhere else... and I wouldn't even count on skiing that early.

Late November will be off-season. Until the Ski season starts-up around January most hotels in the mountain towns will be closed. You may have to stay in Interlaken or Lauterbrunnen. The weather can be anything from snow, to bright clear days. On the up-side hotel prices will be rock-bottom, there are special two for one-deals on Swiss Passes, no crowds, and it will be more scenic as the mountain peaks get a new coat snow after the summer thaw.

Thanks for the replies. Just as I thought.

I have spent time in Geneva, Lausanne, and Basel Switzerland (and visited many smaller towen/cities in western Switzerland) in late November through Christmas. You will need a winter coat, but I never encountered much snow or seriously cold temps. Most tourist sites were operating, but some of them were on reduced hours.
