Switzerland in December and January

My children and I are going to Switzerland over the holidays. My husband will be on business for a few days and my children and I would like to travel somewhere by train for a few days that is about 3-4 hours train ride away from Zurich. We have been all over Switzerlandand have been to Paris so we are looking for other oprions. My kids are 11 and 14

It's a bit over 4 hours, but how about the train to Milan (3 1/2 hours thereabouts) and then on to Verona? Or Venice? (but watch out for Acqua Alta there.)
