Switzerland in August 13th-20th - PLaces to Stay

I'll be visiting Switzerland from August 13-20th. I am planning my trip with help from Rick's Switzerland guide book. We are four adults. I will be arriving on 13th at Zurich and leaving on 20th from Zurich. I want to visit Berner-Oberland, Luzern, Bern and Lusanne via Golden Pass. Q1.What are the best/most economical towns to stay? Can I get Quad accomodation? Q2. Any recommendation about Hotels or B&B near rail station becasue thats how we will travel.
Q3. How many days do I need to see Zurich. I was thinking one day should be enough? Q4. Any other place to visit besides what I mentioned? Thanks!

Places I can suggest with quead rooms: In Zurich, we have stayed at Hotel Bristol and Hotel St. Josef. both were OK but the room at St. Josef was very small. The room at Bristol was large, bright and airy. In Luzern, Hotel Goldene Stern has quad rooms. We have not stayed there but I would if going to Luzern with my family. I checked and they actually have a quad room available on 14 August. This is a few blocks from the train station. I would grab that one now. Other nights are all booked up. In the Berner Oberland, the most reasonably-priced family rooms I know of are at Chalet fontana in Mürren. We have stayed there a number of times and will again. There is a ground-floor apartment which is great for 4 people, or you could get rooms upstairs in the B&B. For lausanne, I suggest you say in nearby Vevey instead. Small town, less expensive. Right on th elake you will find the Vevey Hotel and Guesthouse, a hotel that has private family rooms: http://www.veveyhotel.com/en

I second Lola's recommendation of Hotel Bristol in Zurich and Goldener Stern in Luzern. Murren is fantastic, so I won't discourage you from staying there. But you can also check out Lauterbrunnen on the valley floor. We twice stayed at the Hotel Silberhorn and enjoyed it, is very close to the train station. We requested a "family room" and got what I would describe as a two bedroom apartment. Was two bedrooms, bathroom, separate living room, small eating area. www.silberhorn.com.

Not much in Zurich unless you are set on going one day is enuf. I agree w/ sugg of other posters. Economical is alittle difficult in Switzerland perhaps you could ck hostels that have family accomadations but book ASAP .
Chalet Fontana in Murren is great for families w/ a low rate. lauterbrunnen Valley has a hostel w/ pvt rooms that is also great and reasonable and walkin to everything. You nay have difficulty w/ lodging reservations now that it is just about a month away and Aug is peak season. gd luck.
