Switzerland gondolas - prices

Is there a direct site for the ticket prices & timetables for gondola rides (especially Bernese Oberland area)? I cannot seem to find a site that directly calculates or lists fares.

www.sbb.ch/en will give you timetables for both trains and and gondolas, but only prices for trains. Rick's Switzerland guidebook lists the fares for all of the regions gondolas.

You can go to www.sbb.ch/en This is the official Swiss site for transportation in Switzerland. The fares are there but it's really diffcult to get to them unless you know the correct name and spelling of the point of origin and destination.

What I can tell you is that without a pass of some type, the round trip fare to go to the top of the Schilthorn is CHF91 (via the Stechelberg-Schilthornbahn gondola which is not listed in the link below. There are two ways to get there. The link has the other way via Gruetshalp). A round trip fare to the Jungfraujoch (highest train station in Europe) is CHF178. With the dollar almost a 1:1 exchange, you can assume $91 and $178.

To complete the answer to your question, CLICK HERE to see the fares for the entire Jungfrau region.

Larry,

Great Site to use for us. We will be in Lauterbrunnen for three nights and want to visit Murren, Schiltorn, Gimmelwald, Wengen and Jungfraujoch on two separate days. The early day pass seems perfect for us. We, unfortunately, will not have a Swiss pass and will not recive a discount. I also was told that there is no pass other than a week pass to save money.

You are very active in this forum. YOur comments are always appreciated.

Dean, there is a 1/2 fare Swiss Pass that costs CHF99. It's good for 30 days and it will give you a 50% discount on all transportation in Switzerland including all fares up to the Jungfraujoch and the Schilthorn. It almost pays for itself going up to the Jungfraujoch alone. We purchased one at Spiez as we entered Switzerland and used it all through our travels in Switzerland. We did save a lot of money.

Larry,

This may be getting off track but do you know if I can buy round trip tickets in Interlaken Ost for Murren? Will be in Murren 4 days. The sight you posted for Jungfrau area appears I can buy the entire way up to Murren all at one time, including the return back to Interlaken. I originally thought I would have to buy one leg at a time going up to Murren.

I want to buy the 1/2 Swiss pass but not sure if I will have to wait until Interlaken (hopefully they sell it there). We will be coming from Beaune, France and not using any train pass so will just be buying train tickets on the day we leave for Murren. I am not even sure the exact route yet to Interlaken - it is a little confusing so I am assuming we will make at least a couple of stops and buy additional train tickets on the way. Was going to wing it.
Thanks for any help.

Terri, I'm not positive but you should be able to buy the 1/2 fare card at any staffed Swiss train station. Note that I can't find this CHF99 30-day card on the their website but I know it exists because my wife and I both bought one.

And, yes you can buy a ticket from any train station in Switzerland straight through to Muerren from anywhere in Switzerland including Interlaken Ost. I'm even seeing on the Swiss website that you can buy a ticket from Beaune to Murren. However, since you are buying your tickets in France, the French system may only be able to sell you a ticket to Interlaken Ost. We ran into this problem coming from Venice. Seems the Swiss want to be paid in Swiss Francs to go from Interlaken Ost into the Lauterbrunnen Valley. You'll be riding on the Berner-Oberlandbahn, the Jungfraubahnen and possibly the Stechelberg-Schilthornbahn. They are all part of the Swiss transportation system but they want Swiss Francs for those systems. Feel free to message me for more information on getting to Murren.

There is also a staffed rail station in Muerren where you can purchase your return if you like.

Syv-
I was in Switzerland last Oct. and saved lots of $$$ by buying the Swiss Flexi pass for 3 days. (This was for a one week stay). The days that you don't use the pass you have 50% off.( every other day) You can buy a two day pass. You must buy it before you go. I bought mine from Rick Steve's website. I found it to be the best price. You must have one full day on your pass to cover your last day. It is a little confusing, but it covers most museums and trains. You get 50% off high mountain lifts. Have a great trip.

Thanks for all the tips.
I'm cutting it close to order a Swiss Flexi-pass now by mail, but I found the $99 half-fare one-month pass at www.sbb.ch which also sounds like it will help cut costs. I probably will just purchase that on arrival.
