Traveling to Europe in Sept...booked flight Sept 19 from Bos to Paris....also booked week in Leysin,Switzerland from Sept. 21-28...since it is a timeshare we can leave earlier if need be...here is the question....if we do rail travel in lieu of car rental all recommendations and itineraries from Switzerland are appreciated....need to leave Paris again on October 5th...thx...joe
Joseph , The information you have provided is somewhat vague . Do you have any specific places or areas of Switzerland that interest you ? Are you interested in museums , natural beauty , cities , small villages , etc ? more information would help .
Joseph, I find your question hard to understand. I'm an old codger and tend to think in sentences. If you are asking if you should have a car or use public transport it would depend on what you want and like to do and your travel style - I dunno. The place you are staying in Switzerland, Leysin, is one I am not familiar with. It appears from my research to be a very small mountain village which has one bus which runs down the hill, once an hour, to the station in the larger town of Aigle where you can get a train to Geneva or Brig. From both of Geneva and Brig you can connect all over Switzerland. Or is that not your question? By the way, why the 5 question marks?
In order to be more specific here goes: -Have two weeks in Europe-arrive and leave from Paris. -Booked one week of timeshare in Leysin,Switzerland. -Trying to decide if rail travel makes sense or to rent a car. -Would like to see some more of Switzerland while in Switzerland...day trip to Mt Blanc has also been suggested. -I can leave Leysin to possibly stay elsewhere if it makes sense but obviously added cost. -I am searching additional itineraries for 2nd week..we spent a week in paris and a week in Tuscany so those most likely are not high on the list although very nice.
-Is Eurail or regional travel better or no rail travel at all...my initial view of rail travel is it is quite expensive.
