I will be in Paris the 1st two weeks in September, staying near Eiffel Tower. I would like to take a day trip to Switzerland. Can anyone provide me suggestion/tips on how to plan and where to go in Switzerland? Thanks
I can tell you that unless you have your own personal jet, Switzerland is too far for a day trip.
Geneve is 3 hours and 22 mins by TGV and Lausanne is 3 hours and 54 mins by TGV. There are no changes on those 2 trains.
Switzerland is a little too far for a day trip. Zurich, Lusanne, and Bern will take about 4-4.5 hours. Geneva and Basel about 3-3.5 hours. You can check schedules at the Swiss Rail web site www.sbb.ch/en. If you still want to put in the time, I recommend Lusanne. Located on Lake Geneva its home to the official Olympics Museum, you can also take a a lake steamer to nearby Montreax or Castle Chillon.
Susan: If this helps to give you some perspective, you're the first person I can recall, on this site, to propose doing Switzerland as a day trip from Paris. Do not focus only on the TGV station to station times given in one of the above posts: also include in your thinking the time to get to the train station in Paris, wait for the train, then the station to station time, then the time to get from the Swiss train station to the first sight you want to see, then the next sight, then when you're done, the time to return to the Swiss train station, wait for the train, the station to station time back to Paris, then from the Paris station back to your hotel.
Thanks for information it was most beneficial. What day trips would you recommend?

Kent is forgot the "ultimate" day trip out of Paris: London. The Eurostar will get you there in 2 hours 15 mintues. The ES will also get you to Brussels in 2 hours.
This could be not the best idea, but I know people who have made Brugges as a day trip.
I hope you have a great vacation!
You could take a 2 hour trip to Amboise and see Leonardo da Vinci's museum which is displayed in his home. On the grounds around his home are actual size models of his drawings. You can actually play on and interact with these models. Of course, it's all about what you are interested in seeing and doing. Have a great time making memories!
