I am traveling to Switzerland and Austria in April from the 16th to the 25th. We fly in and out of Geneva. We definitely want to go to Innsbruck and Salzburg. I would like to ski for a day, which is possible with all the glacers. Zermott would be my ideal ski location. We also want to travel my train and keep everything and cheap as possible.
Any route suggestions?
"I would like to ski for a day, which is possible with all the glacers. Zermott would be my ideal ski location." That late in the ski season, Zermatt is probably your best chance. If you're near Innsbruck, you may also be able to ski on the upper slope of the Zugspitze, which isn't too far away.
Now... you are about to receive a flood of recommendations for the Berner Oberland. But having been there in April, I would say don't waste your time and money at that time of year. Most of the mountain villages go into temporary hibernation between the ski and hiking seasons, and the conditions at that time are suitable for neither. Beautiful region, yes, but a huge waste of money and valuable vacation time in the shoulder season.
