Switzerland - 5 days need suggestions

I am traveling to Switzerland in May with my husband and two daughters ages 18 and 20. We fly into Zurich and I was thinking of spending two nights in Lucerne and then 3 in either Grindelwald or Laterbrunner. We are an active family and prefer things to do instead of museums. I need help on a affordable hotal in Lucerne. Are there any problems is a find a Quad hotel (most say chidlrens ages should be under 17)? If so that would require two hotels room will be very expensive. Would you recommend Grindelwald or Laterbrunner? Also what should should I not miss on my trip? Any recommendations for restaurants in either place?

Hi Denise, we have stayed in Mürren, Wengen, and Grindelwald and like them all. For moderately priced places to stay for a family of four, check out Chalet Fontana in Mürren ( ground floor apartment sleeps four in two bedrooms, and kitchen is well equipped, or you could choose two rooms upstairs in the B& B); Hotel Bären in Wenger( family suites with two connecting rooms and bathroom shared between the two); or Hotel Residence in Grindelwald ( one bedroom apartment sleeps 4 and has south balcony and kitchen corner for 230 CHF weeknights).

We stayed at the Hotel Arlette in 2008. At that point it was a RS recommendation. It was definitely not plush - but was very close to the train station and the price was very reasonable. Regarding Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen - I was very underwhelmed with Grindelwald - even though RS really likes it. There is very little there.
We stayed a week in Lauterbrunnen and loved it. You can catch a train or gondola from there to any place in the area. Lauterbrunnen is large enough to have shops, a few restaurants and hotels. We stayed in an apartment and were very pleased. I would definitely vote for Lauterbrunnen over Grindelwald.

Sorry Denise - I misread your post and thought you wrote Gimmelwald.... Regarding Grindelwald - it is much larger than Lauterbrunnen, lots of tour groups and buses. And it really is a distance away from lots in the Berner Oberland. I would still stick with Lauterbrunnen.

Thank you for your advice. I was just reading some old posts, andmany mention that Murren (or Meurren) might be a good alternative instead of Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen? Your thoughts?
