We will probably have 1 full day to spend in each of these countries. I know that doesn't do them justice at all, but if you had 1 day in each, where would you go for the day?
I would skip Austria and spend two days in the spectacular Bernese Oberland (Lauterbrunnen/Wengen/Interlaken/Gimmelwald are the main destinations here.)
Depends- where are coming from and going to afterwards?
"have 1 full day to spend in each of these countries"
I'd stay home. Why bother?
that's because you live in "rocky mountain high" - who wouldn't want to stay home.
It does depend on your other plans -- but I would highly recommend Salzburg.
I second the motion to skip Austria and head for the spectacular Bernese Oberland. It's not worth creating a schedule of 1 day here 1 day there just to "cross off" another country from your list. Keep Austria on your list for next time. You'll not see another area like the Swiss Alps. Head for the Lauterbrunnen Valley via Interlaken. Do not stop in Interlaken just transit through.
Salzburg can be "interesting" but the Alps are AMAZING. Take the others' advice and spend your time there.
Thank you everyone for your replies. Okay, so here's the scoop - my 19 year old daughter will be staying in Germany at Rheindahlen military base working 8-5 Monday-Friday. She will only be there 6 weeks and has 5 weekends to travel. She will be traveling to Switzerland regardless of what i say & they (her and a fellow worker) will be trying to use the night trains to extend their day excursions as much as possible.
Remember being 19? Regardless they will travel even if they only get to step foot into a country of their choice for a few hours. I was just trying to be helpful and give them some good locations to see.
Thank you for any suggestions you may have.
