Swiss Travel Advice

We had an amazing trip to Switzerland this summer and I just wanted to make some recommendations. Btw, Switzerland is one of the most beautiful countries i've ever been to and i was impressed by how clean the towns were and how efficient the travel system is. anyways, big thumbs up to Hotel Alpina in Muerren. Roger and his family were really nice, and the view from the room was amazing. in Muerren we also had really good pasta @ Eiger Restaurant (across from the train station) and excellent Chinese food at the only Chinese place in town that seemed to be pretty popular with the locals.....in Zermatt, we stayed at Hotel Silvana which is actually in Furi, a 5min ski lift ride up the mountain towards the Matterhorn. i found it on trip advisor. it is a family run establishment that is cozy and clean and has the BEST food for breakfest and dinner!! it's like a home away from home and it is up on the mountain away from the touristy scene of Zermatt. we loved it......finally, i wanted to recommend Hotel Eggishorn in Fiescheralp, a town not mentioned in Rick Steve's guide. Fiescheralp is on the Glacier Express line, up on the mtn, and you can take the gondola up to see the Aletsch Glacier from the opposite end that you view it from Jungfraujoch. that view is amazing and from Fiescheralp and the hotel you also have views of other mountains and the Matterhorn in the distance. the best part is that it is a tiny town with few tourists in the summer and there are some great hiking paths!! happy travels!!

This definitely should be on Trip Reports. It will stay up longer and be useful to people.

Danke for the tips.....will research your "finds" for upcoming trip this Oct. 2014.
I love the idea of a less touristy Zermatt.
Danke!

Fiescheralp is great but a tiny hamlet. If you want more of a village in the same location and access to views of the Aletschgletscher glacier,,consider Bettmeralp too.
