I assume that I can't use the Swiss transfer ticket to go from Zurich to Lucerne and then onward using boat to Fluten and then train to Chiasso--I assume that I have to take the train the entire way?

but the train is faster than the boat--so I didn't think that would qualify--so you CAN take the boat (do the same route as William Tell Express--just use the 2nd class stuff, like you can with the Swiss Rail PAss)?

The only requirement is that you must take the most direct route...you can't zigzag for an entire day back and forth across Switzerland.
