Hello- My husband and I will be traveling to Switzerland the first week of September. I am trying to figure out the best option for the train and I am overwhelmed! Aug. 30 - Arrive to Geneva Airport. Take the train to Bern. Spend two nights in Bern. Sep. 1 - Leave Bern and travel to Lauterbrunnen. Excursion to Jungfraujoch (fingers crossed the weather cooperates). Spend 2 nights in Lauterbrunnen.
Sep. 3 - Leave Lauterbrunnen, pick up rental car in Interlaken. So the only train rides we will be taking is Geneva -> Bern, Bern-> Lauterbrunnen, excursion to Jungfraujoch, Lauterbrunnen -> Interlaken. I have looked at the Swiss Pass, since our days are mostly consecutive. But I also see the half price card and the Swiss Flexi-Pass. I am not sure if it is worth it for how little we will be traveling. HELP!
If you are sure that you are going up the Jungfrau, a Half Fare Card will almost pay for itself just with that trip. It is the only all-Switzerland pass (meaning not a regional pass) that gives you 50% off that trip.
You can go to the Swiss Rail website and price out the various legs of your trip and compare the total with what a pass would cost. http://en.voyages-sncf.com/en/
Kristen, The trips you've mentioned are all very easy. As the previous reply mentioned, you can find all the information and prices on the sbb.ch website. In deciding whether or not to use a Pass, you'll have to do the "number crunching" to determine whether this would save you any money over just buying P-P tickets. The trip to the Jungfraujoch is especially expensive, so you could also look at a Jungfrau VIP Pass. Of course, once you've bought the Pass, you're at the mercy of the weather so you'd have to take your chances. Happy travels!
