My wife and I (seniors) will spend 4 days in late August using a first class Swiss Rail Pass to travel as many of the 4 scenic journeys in Rick's book as possible. We will leave from in the a.m. from Zurich and plan on 3 overnight stays. I would appreciate suggestions on the best way to utilize the time. i.e. which route to do 1st, 2nd, etc.; where to ransfer; any portions of a route to leave off in the interest of time, suggested overnight stops and accommodations; shortcuts between "scenic rail journey routes" (e.g. lausanne to Visp). Thanks
You might want to try the route from either Lauterbrunnen to Grindelwald, or the opposite direction. You can make a connection in Interlaken to either town. The train takes you over the pass between Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald with a stop in Kleine Schiedegg. For an additional fee, you may want to transfer at Kleine Schiedegg to the Jungfraujoch (advertised as the "Top of Europe"). Be aware that the elevation is nearly 12,000 ft. Your pass may allow you to also take a short train ride from Lauterbrunnen to Murren as well (recommended). The views are fantastic everywhere.
