I'll be traveling in a group of 4 people in Switzerland. If we buy a Swiss Saver Pass, do we ALL have to be together on the train at the same time, or can you split up as long as at least 2 of the people are together? For the most part we'll be traveling together but there are a few days when different groups of 2 will be going in different directions (not always in the same pair).
Hi Rob,
... we would ask the vendors of the Swiss Pass rather than depend on the opinions of other travellers. We once bought a Eurail Pass for 4 persons because it was less expensive. It did not permit, say, two of us to travel to one location while two others took another train. While we didn't test it, our understanding was the any number of us could travel somewhere though the others included on the ticket remained behind. It wasn't Swiss Pass, however.
... bon voyage! P
Follow-up to my original question... I saw on another website where the Saver pass is 1 single ticket with all names and that a portion of your group can use the ticket but the others would have to stay behind.
My new question is, can just one person use the ticket if all the others stay behind? I'll probably just get a Saver pass for my wife and myself and there is one day she is working and will not need the pass but I'll probably want to use it. Will I get in trouble traveling by myself for the day?
Yes, just 1 person can use the saverpass while the other(s) stay behind. Yes, it is a single piece of paper with all names listed on it.
No, ALL of the people whose names are on the tickets do not have to be present in order to travel. Also remember that kids < 16 years old will travel free with their parent(s) in Switzerland.
If you're traveling with a group of 4 then you want to buy 2 saverpasses...1 for you and your wife...and another sp for the other couple.
Great news! Thanks for the clarification. I'm glad to know that we can still use the Saver pass even though I might be traveling alone one day.
