Hello, Are the passholder cars on Swiss trains marked? As a Swiss pass traveler, how do I know which seats / cars are reserved and which ones are not?
Thanks.
You can't make seat reservations on regular domestic inter-city trains in Switzerland. All seats are first come first serve. There is no such thing as a rail car "reserved" just for pass holders.
Great. Thanks for your reply.
The previous answer is correct for normal SBB/CFF/FFS trains. There are some private tourist trains which do have reservations, such as Bernina Express. They're the ones I look at passing my normal 2nd class trains with the fancy goldfish windows and funny wine glasses while I have the window open and enjoy the countryside. For those I would say ask when you arrive in Chur, Disentis, Brig, Montreaux, etc. There are certainly no "passholder" areas on any Swiss train that I am aware of, unless you equate first class with passholder territory. You can tell first class from a distance by the prominent digit 1 on the door or next to it and the yellow stripe along the roof line.
