My fiance and I are heading into Berner Oberland for our honeymoon. We will be there four nights with the last night being 8/1. We will be bouncing around Murren, Lauterbrunnen and Gimmelwald. I am wondering which town may have the best festivities for Swiss Nat'l Day? We do enjoy going out and celebrating quite a bit, so I'm thinking Interlacken may be the best to head out in . .
Lauterbrunnen has a folklore parade and fireworks in the evening on 8/1. They also have other events throughout the following week, but you will be gone then.
Interlaken's schedule is: 11:00 Aperitif, diverse folkloric performances and welcome speech in 15 different languages by Tourism Director Stefan Otz in the Casino Park. In bad weather the event takes place in the Casino Kursaal. 15:00 FOLKLORE PARADE (crossing near the Lindner Grand Hotel Beau-Rivage –Höheweg–Bahnhofstrasse– Unterseen– Stadthausplatz). 15:30–24:00 National Day celebration at the Stadthausplatz Unterseen. Folklore and musical entertainment by various clubs and bands. 20:00 Swiss National Day celebration at the Stadthausplatz Unterseen (in case of bad weather in the church of Unterseen). 21:00, children's lantern parade from the Hotel Sonne Matten, from the Catholic Church Interlaken and from the Stadthausplatz Unterseen, finishing at Hotel Metropole. 21:15 Open-air concert by the Interlaken brass band in front of the Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa. 22:30 Grand FIREWORK DISPLAY on the «Höhematte» field followed by the lighting of bonfires.
Thank you. I just booked a room in Lauterbrunnen. I read here (http://www.swissworld.org/en/culture/seasonal_customs/national_day/) that a new tradition is heading to farms for brunch.
I hope we can find someone to invite us to one of those. Sounds awesome.
We are going to be in Luzern -- any one has information about what festivities there?
