Swiss Museum Review

Hi!

Curious - Has anyone had the opportunity to check out the new museum of transport near lucerne or the olymic museum in lausanne or Chateau Chillon in Montreux?

Thoughts - on which one/s are worth the visit or should my husband and i just spend more time in Mt Pilatus and Oberland.

Thanks,

If you're referring to the Swiss Transport Museum in Luzern, it's not new, it's been around for a while. It's Switzerland's most popular museum, very modern and worth the time. It's kind of similar to the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum in Washington.
The Olympics Museum in Lausanne is brand new, it's not very big and won't take much time, but the exhibits are very engaging. It's housed in a beautiful historic mansion with manicured gardens and situated along Lake Geneva. IMO Chateau Chillon, is a bit overrated. I think children would get more out of it. For me Switzerland is mostly about the Alps. At a minimum you should spend at least two days in the Berner Oberland region. If you have any time left, or you encounter rainy days Luzern or Lausanne are only a few hours away by train.

I agree with Michael about Chateau de Chillon. We just returned Friday from 3 weeks in the Alps, and we had made a special trip to Lausanne/Montreaux to see the Chateau. Needless to say, I would not make that detour again, as it was not anything that spectacular. I personally thought the whole area was a bit over-rated. I would spend your time in nature.

One of my favorite museums in Switzerland was the Matterhorn Museum in Zermatt. All underground and made to look like an archeological dig. If you're going to be there, I would highly suggest that one.
