How will today's move affect travelers to Swiss from USA?
I first went to Switzerland in 2007, when a dollar bought 1.16 francs, and the country seemed very expensive. Now a dollar buys .86Fr I guess it's already down from its peak, but still-- good God.
Enlighten us. What move?
I'm not sure what you're referring to, but I can say this- Switzerland will likely continue to be one of the most expensive countries on Earth. I was there over the weekend... just as expensive as I remember from my last trip.
The Swiss National Bank today put an exchange rate cap on the Swiss franc, which has been soaring in value because of people buying it as a safe haven currency. The higher the value of the franc, the more expensive Swiss exports become - adversely affecting the Swiss economy. So this move will put a cap on how expensive Switzerland is for an outsider. But it won't make Switzerland cheap.
Frank, see Tom from Chicago's post.
the "move" is just that it will be a bit more expensive. But it wasnt an inexpensive place to go in the first place! hah. Save up a bit now and skip the $5 latte here cuz you will need it over there! Just got back and it was a bit spendy but have more picnicks and enjoy! save money before/after your trip!
