The Swiss Flexipass (4 days in 1 mth) appears to be $253 Swiss Francs on this website and www.myswitzerland.com, yet $302CHF directly on www.sbb.ch.
Is that correct? Also, when ordered, does the ticket/pass come by mail or is it downloadable?
Thanks.
I bought my pass on the Rick Steve's website. It was the best price at the time last year. They mailed it to me.
The prices on the Rick Steves website are correct, at least we obtained our passes at the rates shown. The prices on the SBB site are in Swiss Francs, and when I made the conversion at current exchange rates, it effectively increased the price by 20 percent. The price on the RS site was apparently set prior to the rapid decline of the dollar over the past 6 months to a year. Definitley buy from RS before you travel.
I ordered ours on a weekend, and they arrived by UPS later in the week. The delivery cost was $10 or $15, and it came with all of the planning maps and coupons that Rick promised--I used the coupon to buy more packing stuff, the savings basically paid the shipping cost for that and the rail passes.
The pass comes printed like an old paper airline ticket (my kids had never seen one before).
If you are taking kids, or traveling with another person, don't forget the free family card (kids 15 and under travel free) and the saver ticket prices (two people save 15%).
You are correct that the Swiss Flexi Pass you describe is indeed CHF302 on the Swiss site. On the RS site, the cost is $253 (dollars not Swiss Francs). It is less expensive on the RS site if indeed it is the same ticket. I suggest that you invest a phone call to the RS travel group and find out 1) is it the same pass? and 2) why is less expensive through them? The RS people will sell you the pass and mail it to you. I believe that there may be a delivery charge. You can ask about that as well.
Thanks for the info. I didn't realize the RS site was in dollars. (I assume everyone is referring to U.S.$ -- I'm in Canada). I'll check into it further, and whether or not it would arrive by mail in time before my trip.
Thanks everyone. This site is great.
