Swiss Flexi or Swiss Pass

Hello,

My plans are to depart Varenna, Italy and travel to Murren, Switzerland. Stay in Murren 3 nights for a total of 3 days in the area. Then departing for Montreux. Stay in Montreux for two nights. Which rail pass is the best option? Can I take the Golden Pass and use either pass? If I purchase a Swiss Flexi how would I travel in the Murren area? I do plan to hike some but will be limited due to not having all my gear. In the Murren area can I present the Swiss Flexi pass for 50% discount for traveling by cable or have to use an actual travel date?

Thanks.

Just to clarify---the Golden Pass is a route, not a pass. You can use any type of pass or ticket on th egolden Pass route (but may have to pay extra to sit in the first-class panoramic cars). Regular trains run this route as well.

As for Swiss Pass versus Flex----the consecutive-day Swiss passes are avialable in 4 or 8-day versions---one is too short for you, and the other too long. A 3-day Flex pass, on the other hand, migh tbe "just right". Use Day 1 to go from the Italy-Swiss border (at Chiasso) to Mürren, Day 2 to travel from mürren to Montreux, and Day 3 for your journey from Montreux back to Italy. It wall cover as far as Domodossola.

On the other days, use the 50% feature to cover travel on lifts, trains, boats, etc. The only one it won't cover at 50% is the Jungfrau train above Kleine Scheidegg---that one is 25%.

If there are 2 or more of you traveling together you can get a Saver version with the 15% discount.
