Hi there, Can I use both myself to extend usage to 8 days? Can I buy it in Geneva airport? Which lines would be the best way to use the 8 flex days if I follow Rick's 2-week itinerary by train?
Thank you for your help.
The answer to Question 1 is No. Here is the explanation of the 2-for-1 deal on the Swiss Travel system website: "Holders of these passes (1st or 2nd class) will be entitled to take with them an accompanying person free of charge. The holder pays the normal price; the accompanying person travels free. Both are entitled to travel the length and breadth of Switzerland by public transport on rail, road or waterway." But are you actually traveling solo? Your other thread about travel in Switzerland refers to "we."
Thanks Lola. There are 2 of us traveling. I guess we could just buy the 2-for-1 flex pass again to extend usage, right?
You "could", but it may not give you the best deal to buy consecutive 4-day passes. We generally buy the 3-Day Flex passes for our two-week trips in Switzerland, finding that it gives the best compromise between price and coverage. The Flex pass gives you 50% off most travel and lift rides on "non-covered" days between the first and last day of use. So we use the covered days for our first and last days of travel, plus our one longest travel day between, and everything else (all other travel days) is 50% off. With a 4-day Flex, which is what you will have if you do the 2-for-1, you will get first and laast, plus two additional days of full coverage, and the rest at 50%. On a day when you are only riding lifts and mountain trains like the Schilthorn, First lift in Grindelwald, etc. you will only get 50% coverage even if you use a "covered" day, so the Flex Pass 50% feature gives you the same thing but for free. I hope that makes sense.
Have you considered a half-fare card? Approx. $115 per person, 50% off ALL trains including the private expensive trains.
Hey Jim, with the 2 for 1 deal they will each pay $140 for four FREE days of long-distance travel, and half off everything else, including private trains (except the Jungfrau above Wengen whichnis 25%). Those 4 free days could be worth $300 or more so that is a good deal.
Thank you for your feedback. If you could help me clarify the following, that'd be much appreciated: - Can I purchase the Swiss pass at Geneva or Besel train station or do I have to buy and print them in advance? - Does the Swiss pass give me discount for CNL night train from Zurich to AMS? I don't think I saw such a few on SBB site. - RS 2-week Swiss itinerary recommends: William Tell Express to Lugano, Bernina Express to Pontresina, Glacier Express to Zermatt, and Golden Pass to B.O. Are all these covered by the Swiss flex pass? Will I be missing out a lot if I don't do all of them?
Thanks.
