My wife and I are traveling between Berlin and Florence on the rail and need a one day stopover in Switzerland. Any suggestions as to which city would offer the greatest accessibility and sightseeing for a one day trip?

Following the main and fastest rail routes it would be either Basel or Zurich. Both have got enough to offer for a day. If you like to experience a bit more Alpine feeling stop over in Zurich, take a local train to Zug and stay over in downtown/Lake front Zug. Lovely, picturesque...
