I know that the Swiss Card offers a 50% discount on many railways and gondolas but does anyone know if it is good for the Jungfraujoch and the Shilthorn?
From the My Switzerland website (http://tinyurl.com/arurkxy): "...50% discount on all train, postal-bus, boats and mountaintop excursion tickets purchased locally. ( Discount expires on the day of return.)..."
Rick's guide says both inbound and outbound, but the Swiss Site and Rail Europe (which sell the card) only say outbound.
A Swiss Card, like a Half Fare Card, will give you 50% off both the Jungfraujoh railway trip and the Schilthorn.
The Swiss Card covers both, but not the Jungfrau train during you inbound and outbound trips. More details here: http://www.ricksteves.com/rail/switzerland.cfm
If they wanted to go up either the Schilthorn or the Jungfraujoh on the travel day of their inbound or outbound trip, it would still be covered at 50%, just as on other days. But I actually can,t imagine some doing that on their arrival or departure dat, not really enough time.
"Expires on day of return" means you cannot use it for the half- fare discount after that, even though it is good for 30 days. But if someone wanted to use it for 50% off the Schilthorn or Jungfraujoch on their last day, before using it to travel to the airport or border, it would be good for that.
